Bipolar Depression Overview
![]() |
The following article contains information that will surely guide you into every aspect.
Bipolar depression can affect a person their entire lives. Unlike most other depressions, bipolar depression causes a person to feel mania. Mania is when an individual feels extreme highs that can impair their judgment. Most depression symptoms allow a person to feel a very low mood. The good thing to know is that bipolar may be a lifelong illness, but treatments are available if this illness is completely understood.
Bipolar depression usually begins in adolescence or early adulthood. However, at this early stage, it is usually not seen as a psychological problem because it is sporadic. Individuals that have this disorder will have unique patterns to their mood cycles. These cycles will combine both depression and mania. Once the unique patterns of cycles are identified, treatment can begin. But, until a person's cycles are seen as being true bipolar disorder, a person can suffer for years needlessly.
When a person is experiencing mania during their bipolar depression episode, certain behavioral issues need to be watched very carefully. A person will feel great when the manic episode begins, and this can make them stop whatever treatment that is happening. As the mania intensifies, an individual will have difficulty concentrating and their thinking becomes grand. Judgment can be impaired and that can lead to major problems arising in a person's life. Many people also will abuse various drugs including alcohol during their mania stage of bipolar depression. This can lead to secondary problems besides the bipolar depression.
Treatment for bipolar depression can be long and tedious for someone afflicted with this depressive disorder. Manic depression illness can make a person want to discontinue their treatment, and this is not a good thing for someone with bipolar disorder. An individual with this disorder must be given the right medication and be on a psychotherapy treatment plan of some sort. Because their mania if left untreated can turn into a psychotic state, a steady and consistent treatment plan must be enforced.
Bipolar depression can cripple every aspect of a person's life. Because of their mania, they may make irrational judgments that can have long term effects. Dealing with depression is hard enough, but to have mania associated with a depressive state can be even more difficult. However, with a consistent treatment plan, a person who is afflicted can learn to lead a successful and fulfilling life. No one with bipolar depression has to suffer in silence. Their mental state really depends on seeking treatment as early as they possibly can.

Today's Tip On Depression
Another category that depression medication falls under is the tricyclics. This type of drug has been used longer than other depression medications in helping individuals who are dealing with depression. Tricyclics are different than SSRIs because they interact with serotonin and other various chemicals within the body in order to get the desired effects. Tricyclics include known drugs such as Elavil, Norpramin, Pamelor, and Aventyl. The side effects associated with tricyclics are similar to SSRIs, however tricyclics do have a few different side effects such as blurred vision and a person's heart rate and blood pressure can be affected by these antidepressants. |
